Pedro I “el Cruel” y su amante María de Padilla en el origen de la escritura del Libro de Buen Amor por Juan Ruiz de Cisneros

This research reveals that the main protagonists of the Libro de Buen Amor are King Pedro I of Castile and his mistress María de Padilla, an in-law of its probable author, Juan Ruiz de Cisneros. Throughout it, a completely different re-reading of most of the episodes of the work is proposed, dating its composition to the 1350s, not to the period from 1330 to 1343 during the rule of Alfonso XI, the dates given by Juan Ruiz in the manuscripts of Toledo and Salamanca. This false dating by the author had a very clear objective: to protect himself from the royal wrath of the cruel monarch.
