From a peasant’s homestead to the title of baron: an outline of the life of major general Jernej Basaj (1719–1784)

Based on newly discovered archival documents and relevant literature, this paper offers a comprehensive presentation of the life of Jernej Basaj. From a humble peasant background in Carniola, Basaj rose to the rank of general and attained the title of baron through his dedication and bravery in the mid-eighteenth-century war campaigns.
