Robotic spleen preserving distal pancreatectomy is a feasible approach for benign or borderline malignant pancreatic neoplasm with shorter hospital stay and less post-operative pain.
Abstract
Aim: To describe the procedure, technical issue and outcome of robotic assisted spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy. Methods: A 55-year-old women presented with an epigastric mass. CT scan of the abdomen revealed a 4.2 cm cystic lesion in the tail of pancreas. Endoscopic ultrasound scan suspected mucinous cystic neoplasm or branched type IPMN. Fine needle aspiration (FNA) was negative for malignancy. Robotic assisted spleen preserving distal pancreatectomy was performed. Results: Robotic assisted spleen preserving pancreatectomy was performed on the patient. Total operative time was 315 mins with blood loss 50 mls. The patient was discharged home on the forth postoperative day. The patient recovered well with no postoperative complication. Pathology showed serous cystadenoma with clear resection margin. Conclusion: Robotic spleen preserving distal pancreatectomy is a feasible approach for benign or borderline malignant pancreatic neoplasm. Patient is benefited from the minimal invasive approach with shorter hospital stay and less post-operative pain.
