Abstract

The present study compared the impact of two greengram varieties viz. GAM-5 and a locally grown variety, on the income of farmers. The study was conducted among 120 farmers of Central Gujarat of India. The economics of green gram production was calculated anddecomposition analysis was employed for impact assessment. The analysis revealed that the cultivation of GAM-5 variety was more profitable. The value of B:C ratio was found more for GAM-5 variety than the other variety. It was also found that the seed of locally grown varieties was expensive. The difference between the yields of the two varieties was negligible. Therefore the impact of both the varieties on income of farmers was almost the same.
