The Problem of Illegal Immigration among the Algerian Youth: The Paradox of Rent, Governance and Corruption

Abstract:This paper investigates the major causes of illegal immigration among young Algerians, focusing on the interconnected political, social, and economic factors. The study employs qualitative methods, including interviews and fieldwork conducted in Algeria and England, and the collection of testimonies from migrants in France, Germany, and Spain, to uncover the causes behind illegal migration, the methods employed, and the impacts on both Algeria and Europe. Findings highlight the shared responsibilities of both regions in addressing this issue. The research underscores the importance of good governance in migrant-exporting countries to enhance citizens' well-being and mitigate illegal migration. Ultimately, the study calls for collaborative efforts between sending and receiving countries to identify root causes and develop realistic, sustainable solutions.
