Abstract

CrossFit® is a method that combines physical abilities and psychological characteristics to meet the high demands of competition. Few studies have analyzed these relationships in CrossFit® practitioners in response to gender at the beginner level. The objective was to determine the relationships between physical variables, psychological characteristics, and sociodemographic factors in response to gender. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 21 practitioners: 13 women (28.2±7.0 years and 62.7±7.4 kg) and 8 men (32.0±5.5 years and 83.7±18.1 kg). Physical fitness was assessed using Illinois, Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test 1 (YYIR1), squat jump (SJ), counter movement jump (CMJ), and single-leg counter movement jump (SLCMJs). Psychological characteristics were assessed using the CPRD questionnaire, and sociodemographic factors were analyzed using a questionnaire validated by expert judgment and administered via Google Forms. The data were analyzed using the RV coefficient to evaluate the relationships between groups and an unsupervised machine learning analysis with prior determination of the number of clusters. Eighty-four variables classified into four groups were consolidated. The results for men are higher, and there are significant differences in physical tests (p<0.05) compared to women. There are relationships between psychological characteristics and physical abilities, and, conversely, sociodemographic factors are more closely related to psychological characteristics. There are two distinct groups of practitioners within the same beginner category (Group 1 Beginners 2.0; Group 2 Standard Beginners).
