Abstract

This article seeks to examine and contrast the relationship between crop yield and productivity in Cundinamarca, Colombia by applying a correlation model that considers variables such as the area planted, harvested, production, and yield during two time periods in 2022, extracted from a database from the government of Cundinamarca. The results obtained show that, although there is a strong correlation between the areas sown and harvested, as well as between the harvested area and production, the yield per hectare in the long run is not directly related to the cultivated area in Cundinamarca, so the yield does not depend on the variables of the research but, rather, it could depend on external factors such as soil conditions, cultivation techniques and climate present in the sector. In addition, at the end of the research, differences could be observed between the two semesters of 2022, highlighting a reduction in total production in the second half of the year, despite an increase in yield in this same semester, the study finally concludes that expanding the cultivated area does not guarantee greater efficiency, underlining the importance of improving agricultural management to achieve more sustainable and efficient production.
