Abstract
This work considers the synergistic impacts of bearing surface irregularities and pseudoplastic lubricant behaviour to perform a numerical simulation of a double layer hybrid circular porous journal bearing (DLHCPJB). The non-Newtonian characteristics of the lubricant have been examined through pseudoplastic behavior to generate more realistic design data. Besides this, he synergistic effects of a double layer porous matrix and pseudoplastic lubricant behavior have been analyzed numerically. The work undertaken have investigates the interactive effects of the 3D bearing surface irregularities, flow behaviour index, and permeability parameter on the behaviour of a DLHCPJB. The modified Reynolds equation for a DLHCPJB is resolved through the application of the finite element method. The numerically simulated findings demonstrate that accounting for the impacts of bearing surface irregularities improves the rotor dynamic coefficients and increases the minimum fluid film thickness. Further, the application of a pseudoplastic lubricant improves the stability threshold speed margin ( ω ¯ t h ) . In addition, the results of this study demonstrate that the DLHCPJB improves the performance attributes compared to the single layer hybrid circular porous journal bearing (SLHCPJB).
