Abstract

Between the years 2022 and 2024 Eberhard Knobloch and Karin Reich prepared and published the critical edition of the letter from Leibniz to James Bruce from November 21, 1712 and Leibniz’s accompanying „Instruction“. In this instruction Leibniz described a globe with declination lines, which was missing. In the beginning it was not known, whether the magnetical globe mentioned in these documents still existed. Detailed researches in Hannover and St. Petersburg until then had not been successful. On October 28, 2022 the globe Nr. 7, located in Göttingen was interpreted as the globe which Leibniz had described. This interpretation is due to Albert Krayer, who knew about the globe since 1986, but he did not know the text from Leibniz.
