Abstract
Background: Alveolar bone undergoes bone remodeling when subjected to functional stress with fixed functional appliance therapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the trabecular pattern changes on CBCT in the mandibular incisor and maxillary first molar region following treatment with Advansync 2 appliance, by fractal analysis.Materials and Methods:Archived pre and post-treatment cone beam computed tomograms (CBCT) of 15 children in the age range of 13-16 years were viewed on Dolphin imaging software and oriented along the spatial planes. Snapshots of uniform slice thickness from the mandibular incisor and maxillary first molar region (regions of interest, ROI) were taken and imported into the Image J software, where different functional sequence were applied to evaluate the trabecular bone pattern. Statistical analysis with SPSS software of the acquired data was performed using Cohens kappa test and paired t test. Results: Kappa statistics to determine intra operator reliability showed fair agreement. Trabecular pattern showed a significant reduction in the mandibular incisor region (P
