Abstract

In the present study insect biodiversity was investigated in the campus of Maitreyi College, University of Delhi, New Delhi. The green campus with an area of ten acres offers home to several insect species. The study was carried out from February 2024 to August 2024. This period includes spring, summer, and monsoon seasons. A total of 198 insect species were photographed and documented after removing any duplicity of the data. Out of these 198 insects, 164 insects were found to belong to 13 different orders of class Insecta while 34 insects remained unidentified. Predominance of the insects belonging to the order Lepidoptera (20.2%) was observed followed by the orders Hemiptera (17.7%), Hymenoptera (15.2%), Coleoptera (13.1%) Diptera (9.1%), Orthoptera (2%), Blattodea (1.5%), Odonata (1%), Neuroptera (1%), Isoptera (0.5%), Trombidiformes (0.5%), Zygentoma (0.5%), and Dermaptera (0.5%).
