Abstract

This study focuses on citation and readership activities in Scopus-indexed Indian Affiliated books. We retrieved book citation counts from Scopus subject query and readership through Mendeley API. We found that 88.72% of books had a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), and 100 % of DOI books matched Mendeley API to get readership. Books with DOI (97.16 %) had at least one reader, whereas (82.17 %) had at least one citation. The Life Science domain represents the highest cited and readership for Scopus-indexed books, with 88.71 % and 98.55 %, respectively. The study revealed a moderately positive (range, 0.497–0.642) Spearman correlation between citations and readership among broad domains. We elaborate on Mendeley user metrics, such as status groups, geographical locations, and Mendeley Subject categories. PhD students were the most significant readers in the professional status group. The subjects ‘Engineering, ‘Earth and Planetary Sciences, and ‘Agricultural and Biological Sciences were the crucial Mendeley subject categories, with the highest readership among all book domains. This investigation examines Scopus-indexed books citation and readership, emphasising correlations across diverse subject disciplines, including Mendeley subject categories, professional status groups, and countries of readers.
