Teaching Global Environmental Politics: Looking Back to Move Forward

Global environmental politics (GEP), as a scholarly eld and a focus of teaching, has changed over the past quarter century. In this Forum article, we re ect on our collective and varied experiences teaching GEP and the relatively limited coverage of teaching in the journal Global Environmental Politics. Re ecting on the authors’ experiences, we pay special attention to the evolution of GEP across different higher education contexts and to emerging themes and perspectives, especially as students seek pressure points in a changing world. This essay also recommends ways the journal can take on a more signi cant role in enhancing GEP teaching and learning in both Global North and Global South. Our intent is to call for collective re ection, provoke and inspire, and af rm the role of teaching and learning in the eld of GEP, which is moving into the center of political studies in the context of climate change.
