Abstract
Exploring the potential of Carassius gibelio (Bloch, 1782) in producing super-activated carbon is a promising area of research. This fish species is known for its ability to accumulate heavy metals, making it a potentially valuable resource for synthesising activated carbon. By investigating this possibility, we could not only contribute to the development of more eco-friendly and sustainable methods of carbon synthesis but also potentially find a new use for this unique aquatic organism. In the study conducted for this purpose, super-activated carbon production was carried out through chemical agents using different regions of the invasive species such as Gill, Scale Skin, Internal Organs, Fin and Muscle. The surface properties of super-activated carbons have been tried to be characterised by various analyses. According to the study's results, super-activated carbon with a surface area of 2053 m2/g consisting of approximately 61% micro and 39% meso pore structures was synthesised from the fish's gills. The results revealed that the invasive Carassius gibelio may be a high-potential source of super-activated carbon.
