“Resilience in the face of disaster”: experiences of mental health workers in Türkiye’s high-risk regions

This study explored the resilience experiences of mental health professionals working in disaster settings in Türkiye. Using a phenomenological design, in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 mental health professionals (social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists) involved in post-disaster psychosocial support. Data were analyzed thematically in MAXQDA. The analysis identified factors shaping resilience, strategies used to sustain it, and recommendations for strengthening support systems. Participants highlighted environmental stressors, individual coping, and the role of social and organizational resources. Findings indicate that sustaining resilience requires trauma-informed structures integrating personal, relational, and institutional support to ensure continuity and quality of psychosocial care.
