India-EU cooperation in critical and emerging technologies

This paper focuses on India-EU cooperation on Critical and Emerging Technologies (CETs), given their instrumental role in shaping contemporary geopolitics, and the shared imperatives of India and the European Union (EU) for technological self-reliance and autonomy in foreign affairs. The conceptual scope and geopolitical significance of CETs are explored against the backdrop of the ongoing major power competition and supply chain disruptions. Assessing India’s and the EU’s capabilities and techno-geopolitical orientations, convergences that facilitate cooperation are identified. The initiatives and achievements on the bilateral front are evaluated and located within the larger context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and China’s technological rise.
