Regional Characteristics of Electoral Support for Female Candidates in Rural Akim Elections in Kazakhstan

The article explores gendered electoral preferences toward candidates in Kazakhstan’s rural akim elections, analyzed through the framework of gender construction theory. Based on statistical data and the results of a sociological survey conducted in 2023, the study reveals significant barriers that impede the electoral success of female candidates. The authors emphasize the critical influence of gender stereotypes and regional differences in shaping voter preferences, which often restrict women’s access to local leadership roles. The paper highlights the need for institutional support and a transformation of societal attitudes to advance women’s political leadership.
