The DREAM Model of supervision: a framework of support for counselors navigating client death by suicide

Client death by suicide is considered an “occupational hazard” for counselors. The associated bereavement process is intensified for counselors due to the unique parameters of their profession, impacting capacity and well-being. While counseling supervision has positive potential to support counselors in this experience, frameworks of support are lacking. The DREAM Model of Supervision is an adaptable, accessible, and process-focused model that supports the healing and capacity of counselors who have experienced client death by suicide.
