“Serenos, alegres, valientes y osados”

Hymns and patriotic songs were a fundamental vector in the construction of political subjectivities in revolutionary Europe, particularly due to their ability to forge collective identities through an intensely emotional language and to become political symbols that appealed to collective action. The article draws on the cultural history of politics and the history of emotions to analyze the impact of the Himno de Riego both on the political struggles of the Spanish Liberal Revolution (1833-1843) and on the emotional construction of the political subjectivities of the period.
