Preserving Indonesian Architectural Education Through the Archives of Suwondo Bismo Sutedjo

Abstract This study examined the evolution of Indonesian architectural education through the personal archives of Suwondo Bismo Sutedjo, a key Indonesian figure in post-independence academia. Using archival ethnography, it documents the preservation, organization, and digitization of his extensive collection, now acquisitioned by Museum Arsitektur Indonesia. This case illustrates how individual academic archives can enrich historical understanding and inform current pedagogy. Suwondo’s writings and teaching materials reflect the shifting educational philosophies and underscore the value of integrating traditional forms with modernist principles. This study emphasizes the role of archivists in preserving disciplinary memory and promoting collaboration across education, practice, and preservation.
