Abstract

The text is a review of the latest book by Karolina Bielenin-Lenczowska. The publication is dedicated to research on the Polish diaspora in Brazil, specifically the descendants of settlers who arrived in the 19th century. The author, an anthropologist and linguist, used her fieldwork experience by spending time in the Brazilian colony of Rio Claro. The book aims to understand what being Polish in Brazil means to her interlocutors, as well as which elements of culture, such as language and culinary practices, are perceived as “Polish.” The monograph is an example of applying contemporary standards in anthropology, combining theory with fieldwork and accessible language.
