Abstract

Abstract This article, part of a broader study on the visual culture of Ancient Israel, seeks to define the concept of image /representation from several epistemological perspectives, including art history, cultural philosophy, and visual communication. It also highlights Erwin Panofsky’s major contribution to research methodologies through the development of the complementary disciplines of iconography and iconology, which offer a semiotic framework for decoding artistic works often shaped by symbolic forms and meanings.
