Waqf Management at UPZ BAZNAS of Istiqlal Mosque Jakarta: Optimizing Governance and Community Economic Empowerment

Waqf is one of the most significant instruments in strengthening the economic empowerment of the Muslim community, serving not only as a form of worship but also as a socio-economic driver. This study aims to analyze the waqf management practices conducted by the UPZ BAZNAS of Istiqlal Mosque Jakarta and their contribution to community economic empowerment. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that waqf management at Istiqlal Mosque applies modern management functions, including planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling. The optimization of productive waqf is reflected in social-religious programs, educational initiatives, community economic development, and public services managed professionally. Supporting factors include the quality of nadzir human resources and institutional support from UPZ BAZNAS, while challenges lie in the limited public understanding of productive waqf. This study recommends enhancing the professionalism of nadzir, ensuring transparency in management, and innovating waqf-based programs to expand the socio-economic impact of mosque-based empowerment.
