Resumen
The mikvah as a subject and as a personal experience began to receive attention only with the advent of a Jewish feminist art in the 1960s, and in the Jewish American art world rarely. As topic for exploration, it has been associated with goddesses as a female experience. Yona Verwer, following a different path, reveals her mikvah experiences in entirely personal imagery with both religious and political overtones. In this regard, she is a pioneer in establishing a mikvah iconography relevant to the experiences of individual artists.
