tlooto Summary

The potential uses of agent-based modeling and object-oriented programming, Petri nets, linguistic dynamic systems, cellular automata and their generalization, and algorithms in computational intelligence in artificial transportation systems are investigated.

Abstract

This paper introduces the basic concept, framework, and architecture, as well as major methods for modeling and analysis, and potential applications of artificial transportation systems. The relationship between artificial transportation systems and simulated transportation systems is addressed. The potential uses of agent-based modeling and object-oriented programming, Petri nets, linguistic dynamic systems, cellular automata and their generalization, and algorithms in computational intelligence in artificial transportation systems are investigated. In addition, applications of computational experiments and parallel systems methods in transportation research are also addressed. Finally, potential problems and future direction of research in artificial transportation systems are discussed.
