Abstract
The highest goal of the principle of normalization has recently been clarified to be the establishment, enhancement, or defense of the social role(s) of a person or group, via the enhancement of people's social images and personal competencies. In consequence, it is proposed that normalization be henceforth called “social role valorization.” Originally published in December 1983: Mental Retardation, 21, 234–239
