Trends of sexual harassment research using keyword network analysis

Abstract

This study examined the trends of sexual harassment research using keyword network analysis. The data for this study were keywords in articles from 2003 to 2019 containing ‘sexual harassment’ retrieved from the Korea Citation Index (KCI) database, which provides a range of academic information on domestic journals and articles. Finally, 302 related studies were selected from the KCI list of academic articles, and 999 keywords were extracted by refining the keywords. The collected data were subjected to a refinement process, and 45 keywords were selected based on the word frequency above 6 times. The selected keywords were converted to matrix data and analyzed by social network analysis. The analysis method used in this study was frequency analysis, degree centrality, closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, use of keywords for analyzing the main concepts of the research. The results of this study were as follows. First, sexual harassment, sexual harassment, sexual violence, workplace, sexism, awareness, preventive education, violence, discrimination and gender equality were among the most frequently used keywords in the articles. Second, sexual violence, sex discrimination, workplace, preventive education, discrimination, women and victims showed the highest degree centrality, closeness centrality, and betweenness centrality respectively, except for sexual harassment. Third, the keyword network was visualized. Based on an analysis of the keyword network analysis index, this study diagnoses the past and present of sexual harassment research and suggests future research directions. Overall, these results are meaningful because they provide a conceptual reference point that can understand the current status of sexual harassment research and suggests implications for future research on sexual harassment.
