인성 교육에 대한 성찰과 도덕과 교육의 지향

The true purpose and essence of education is to cultivate human nature in a moral way. In general, we think that efforts to contribute to the education of human beings toward humanity is character education. If these efforts are made on the basis of the clarification of the concept and framework of 'character education', and its contingent application, we can obtain the expected results. However, current Korean education has paid little attention to character education, only focusing on instrumental and fragmentary knowledge for the purpose of university entrance examinations. Also a couple of previous plans to solve the problem have had obvious shortcoming in terms of the conceptualization of character education and validity of methods for the application of character education. In this situation, to explore the core elements of character and the process of character development, the proper direction of character education, and application methods through curriculum and extra curriculum is an extremely important task to be solved in our times. Thus, this paper tries to clarify the concept of character and character education based on philosophical, psychological, and educational perspectives, and then, present practical ways for the application of the idea through moral subject-matter education and other subject-matter education.
