While it spatially reinterprets the Mobility These posited in John Urry’s ‘Sociology beyond Societies’, this paper explores the space/spatiality of mobility and mobile urbanism as the urban ideology of mobility. Increase of mobility around city gives rise to the trans-urban relational space which is created as an interconnected and hybrid space with city-related materials, people, institution, information, technology, knowledge, capital and idea moving across varied social spaces. This is manifested with the physical and virtual expansion of city, the trans-urbanization of place-bound every day life and the post-humanization of urban space. The urbanization of mobility involves the shift from a sedentary city kept in social structure(e.g., class, power, system) to a flux city reconstituted with varied relationships which are formed through the free movement and flow of people and things. Mobility redefines the notion of modern city based on place into the one of postmodern city based on mobility and flow. Mobile urbanism expresses the new nature of city defined by mobility which is reflected in mobile space, mobile subject and object, mobile sense, mobile dwelling, mobile civil rights and mobile politics. However in that mobility may bring about the progress as well as retrogress of city, mobile urbanism should be treated as a value-neutral notion.
