The immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome, occurring in chronically HIV-infected patients, is a set of heterogeneous pathological manifestations attributed to an excessive and deregulated immune response to various pathogens and non infectious stimuli shortly after initiation of antiretroviral therapy.
