Abstract

The tools used in survival analysis are the KaplanMeier Estimator, a non-parametric statistic, and the Cox Proportional Hazard method. The Kaplan-Meier method estimates the survival curve taking into account censored data. Cox Proportional Hazard results include total values/censored values, covariate non-parametric estimate, standard error, chi-square statistic, P-value, and hazard ratio. We used the Mayo Clinic study of 418 Primary Biliary Cirrhosis patients during a ten-year period. In using these methods we found that the Kaplan-Meier survival curves were significantly different between the groups. Kaplan-Meier results include total values/censored values. The results indicate that drugs did not have a major difference on the outcome of the tests. Gender was the substantial determining factor.
