A Study of Several Sole Marks in the Haman Formation

An outcrop of fossil sole marks has been found in the upper part of the Haman Formation (Upper Cretaceous) 12 kilometers north of Masan City, South Gyeongsang Province. The sole marks are preserved on the bedding planes of well laminated red siltstone and shale. The organic sole marks found are bird tracks, worm trails and burrows, and the inorganic sole marks are ripple marks, sun-cracks, slide marks, bounce casts and rain prints. The red beds of the formation seem to be fluvial or lacustrine deposit formed under the savanna type of climate. The tracks of fossil birds are described and named as Koreanaornis hamanensis n.sp.
