Shale gas pooling conditions and exploration targets of Shuinan Formation in Jiaolai Basin

Abstract

Jiaolai Basin is typical of the Mesozoic fault basin in eastern China, where a set of thick black shale is developed in Shuinan formation and favorable conditions exist for shale gas accumulation. It is very important to analyze its shale gas accumulation conditions and recognize future exploration targets. According to the types of shale gas reservoirs and gas pooling elements, combining the field survey data with indoor variety of testing methods, this paper analyzes various conditions, such as the sedimentary environment, shale distribution, abundance and type of organic matter, organic matter maturity, holes and cracks, mineral components, adsorption isotherm, as well as gas content. Favorable areas are forcasted by comparing the geological characteristics with the Chang 7layer′ s shale and using overlapping of available data, the conclusion is that the study area southwest of Laiyang Depression,Xiagezhuang Sag and Zhucheng Depression can be selected as the next exploration targets.
