IMPROVING CAMIONETA VAN SERVICE IN TEXAS

tlooto Summary
A 2001 study by Texas Transportation Institute found camioneta vans may not be safe for passenger transport due to potential safety concerns and lack of compliance with FMCR regulations.
Abstract
A study conducted by the Texas Transportation Institute suggests that a fair number of the caminoeta vans operating in Texas may not be safe for carrying passengers. The vans, which can transport 15 passengers, are frequently used in carrier-for-hire operations and have in the past been exempt from compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Regulations (FMCR). Although compliance was made mandatory in mid-2001, the agency believes further education of camioneta operators will be necessary before current operations will be truly safer.
