tlooto Summary

Novel heat exchanger design with trisection ellipse helix baffles for improved efficiency and reduced pressure drop.

Abstract

In helix baffled heat exchangers the shell side fluid sweeps tube bundle with spiral direction. It can overcome the disadvantages with conventional segmental baffles of low heat transfer efficiency due to the flow stagnation in the so-called "stagnation regions",higher pressure drop due to local losses with sudden turnings of the zigzagged serpentine flows, and short service time related to the vibration in some tubes with double span supports. The heat exchangers with trisection ellipse helix baffles are designed for tube bundle arrangement with equilateral triangles, and it is a modification at the bases of scheme with quadrant ellipse/sector baffles, which is suitable for tube bundle arrangement with squares. The trisection ellipse helix baffles are divided either along the interval between the rows of tube bundle of an integrated tube arrangement or just precise trisection. The novel heat exchangers with trisection ellipse helix baffles can be used in many application cases, and the manufacture technique of positioning and drilling the inclined holes on the baffles is simple and easy to realize.
