An Introduction to the High Performance Water Base Muds Abroad

High performance drilling fluid(also called amine base drilling fluid) has found a wide application in overseas petroleum exploration and development,and is taken as the substitution for oil base mud.Although water base,this mud performs as good as oil base muds.This mud was classified as a new drilling fluid in 2006.The high performance drilling fluids contains a new cationic polymer——ether/glycol polymine.This amine salt has a high inhibitive and bit balling prevention capacity,and is environmentally friendly.The high performance mud functions like an oil base mud because of its filming ability.This paper discusses the inhibitive capacity,bit balling prevention and the hardness and hot rolling test results of the new mud,and a case history of using this mud and the field test of polymer concentration.
