Abstract

Thisarticlehighlightstheimplicationofsite-specificpropertiesonseismicgroundresponsestudies. One-dimensional equivalent linear ground response analysis was carried out using site-specific dynamicpropertiesoflocallyavailablesoilsofGuwahaticity,andtheresultsarecomparedwith thoseobtainedusingexistingstrain-dependentdynamicproperties.Accelerationtimehistoriesfrom threestrongmotionswereused.Itwasobservedthataninputmotionhavingahigherpeakbedrock acceleration,utilizingexperimentallyobtaineddynamicsoilproperties,exhibits38%and24%lower peakgroundaccelerationandpeakspectralacceleration,respectively,incomparisontotheresults obtainedusingstandardVD-SIsoilmodels.Theamplificationcharacteristicsofthestrongmotions areobservedtobesignificantlyinfluencedbythedegradationofdampingratiobeyond1%shear strain.TheresultshighlightthenecessityofconductingGRAofanyregionconsideringitsregional dynamicsoilpropertiestoobtainmorerealisticoutcomes.
