Abstract
The research of engineering characteristics of expansive soils is reviewed in this paper. The structural characteristic, permeability, deformation, strength and slope stability are introduced and problems existing in research work are analyzed. From the view of microstructure of expansive soil, the inter relationship between microstructure and related mechanic parameters is researched deeply. Micro model is combined with macro model to reveal the engineering characteristics.
