A new bridge structure combining modern cable-stayed and classic arch bridges improves spanning capacity, rigidity, and stability through joint cable and arch interaction.
Abstract
The organic combination of modern cable-stayed bridge with classic arch bridge to form a type of new bridge structure will bring into full play the respective advantages of both the cable-stayed and arch bridges. The configuration of the new bridge structure will be aesthetic and will have its unique style. For the 4th Xiangjiang River Bridge in Xiangtan City, the main bridge is designed as a cable-stayed arch bridge of concrete-filled steel tubes with span arrangement 120 m+400 m+120 m.In this paper, the considerations for the innovative techniques and fundamental mechanical properties of the structural system of the type of the new bridge are presented. The results of study indicate that the cables and arches of the bridge can work in a joint way, interact each other and consequently can improve the spanning capacity, rigidity and stability of the bridge structure.
