Abstract

Objective:To identify polymorphism of apolipoprotein E(Apo E),and to determine whether Apo E gene polymorphism is associated with essential hypertension(EH).Methods:Sixty-seven Tibetan EH patients and 53 normal controls,67 Han EH patients and 64 normal controls and 48 Hui EH patients and 52 normal controls were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP).Results:The frequencies of Apo E genotypes had statistical difference between Han EH patients and normal controls(P0.05),and much more significant difference between Tibetan patients and controls(P0.01).The frequencies of the E4 allele were significant higher in Tibetan EH patients than normal controls,but those of E2 were much lower in EH patients(P0.01).There was no difference both in genotype and allele frequencies between Hui EH patients and normal controls(P0.05).Conclusion:E4 allele might affect blood pressure in Tibetan and Han population,E4 was not associated with EH patients in Hui population.
