Study on Ostrich Semen Character and Semen Storage at Low Temperature

Several physiological property of ostrich semen were examined.Semen volume per ejaculation was 0.17～2.03 mL with spermatozoa concentration of one billion five hundred seventy million per milliliter,pH 6.7～7.3,motility 0.78～ 0.92 ,morphological abnormality rate 3.09%～13.3%. The mean survival time of spermatozoa was 72 hours when the semen was diluted 2 times with MEM and stored at 5℃.When the semen was untereated or diluted 2 time with 0.85% NaCl solution and stored at the same temprature, the spermatozoa could only survive for about 24 hours.
