Expression levels of microRNA-124 in plasma and tissure correlated with prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer

Abstract
Objective To analyze the correlation between plasma and tissue miR-124 expression and overall survival(OS) of patients with colorectal cancer.Methods Collected 71 cases of patients with colorectal cancer which cannot be removed(n=49),completely resected(n =22),collected the plasma and tumor tissue samples.Detected tumor unresectable tissue and plasma of miR-101,miR-124,miR-126,miR-210,miR-217's expression,by quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR) to analyze the correlation between miR-124 expression and the prognosis of the patients.Results qRT-PCR for detection of unresectable expression of miRNAs in plasma and tissue in patients with colorectal cancer,high expression of miR-124's changes revealed as the most significant(P 0.05.P 0.01),and other miRNAs did not show significant changes.(1) Correlation between plasma miR-124 and patients' OS:in unresectable colorectal cancer patients,plasma and tissue expression of miR-124 was positively correlated with the OS(OR =0.451,95%CI0.189- 0.654,P =0,002;OR =0.295,95%CI 0.493- 13.74.P =0.037).(2) Cox proportional hazards models assessment:the Cox proportional hazards model evaluation revealed that the high expression of miR-124 in plasma were correlated with PFS(OR = 0.147,P a 0.022);and high expression of miR-124 in tissue had no correlation with PFS(OR =0.281,P =0.057),plasma and tissue low expression of miR-124 had no correlation with low mortality risk ratio(OR =2.07,P =0.163).High expression of miR-124 had no correlation with PFS(OR = 1.85,P =0.725).Conclusion It demonstrated that the plasma miR-124 expressions could he used as biological markers for evaluating the prognosis of colorectal cancer.
