Acute Toxicity and Safety Assessment of DDTs to White Cloud Mountain Minnow Tanichthys albonubes larval stages

Abstract

Objective The acute toxicity of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs) to white cloud mountain minnow Tanichthys albonubes larval stages was investigated in order to evaluate the impact of DDTs on fishes. Methods T. albonubes exposed to DDTs with 0.0125, 0.025, 0.045, 0.08 and 0.14 mg/L by using the addictive index method, the acute toxicity and safety concentration of DDTs to T. albonubes were determined. Results The DDTs is a drastic toxicant to the minnow larval stages. The LC50 of 24 h and 48 h for DDTs are 0.243 and 0.049 mg/L respectively. The safe concentration of DDTs is 0.040 mg/L. Conclusion T. albonubes is sensitive to DDTs and could be considered as a valid index organism for environmental risk assessment.
