The products of the 5-lipoxygenase pathway of arachidonic acid metabolism in nanomole amounts can induce cutaneous vasodilation with edema formation and a neutrophil infiltrate, and these responses are enhanced by a cyclooxygen enzyme pathway product, PGD 2.
