The importance of vanadium in life processes is addressed, emphasising the vanadium cofactors in vanadate-dependent haloperoxidases and vanadium-nitrogenases, and their insulin-mimetic behaviour and hence efficacy in the oral treatment of both forms of diabetes mellitus is extended.
