Abstract
The long-term stability (for 10,000 exposure hours) of titanium and its dental implant alloy Ti-5Al-4V in bioliquids that simulated in vitro the oral cavity environment. Carter-Brugirard and TaniZ 5.73; 7.88) both materials presented a passive behaviour, very stable for a large potential range, denoting compact passive films; monitoring of the open circuit potentials revealed stable values which are placed in the passive region from Pourbaix diagrams; fluoride ions did not affect these values; potential gradients, which can appear in extreme conditions of the saliva pH and composition, have low values and can not accelerate the corrosion. In Tani&Zucchi artificial saliva, containing high level of chloride ions, titanium ion release shows very low values, which characterise a passive, resistant layer.
