Abstract

The highly porous biodegradable cell scaffolds of poly(L lactic acid) and poly(L lactic co glycolic acid) were prepared with a solution casting and porogen particular leaching technology. An improved method in which a density bottle was used instead of a graduated cylinder to measure the porosity of the porous scaffold. It was found that the porosity of the porous scaffold increased with the porogen weight fraction , independent of porogen particle size. As the content of the glycolic acid in poly(L lactic glycolic acid) copolymer increased, the porosity of the porous PLGA scaffold decreased. The median pore diameter depended on the size of porogen particle. It was also found that the cartilage proliferated in the poly(L lactic co glycolic acid) scaffold and secreted extracellular matrix(ECM).
