Direct renin inhibitors Aliskiren preventing retinopathy of prematurity

Renin,a upstream growth factor of renin angiotensin system( RAS),has the effects of specific-speed-limiting on the RAS chain. In many ischemic retinopathy cases such as retinopathy of prematurity( ROP),as the RAS increases,the RAS of retina is activated,which might stimulate the rise of vascular endothelial growth factor( VEGF),result in vascular pathological changes,led to the leakage of blood vessels and the proliferation of vascular endothelial cell and neovascularization. Being adopted as a new way of blocking the RAS,Aliskiren plays a distinctive role in the process of preventing and abating pathological angiogenesis. The application of Aliskiren is becoming a promising approach for the prevention and treatment of ROP.
