Probing and demonstrating etiological factor for outbreak of Angiostrongyliasis Cantonensis in Wenzhou

Objective] To reinforce the cognition for an eosinophilic meningoradiculitis caused by Angiostrongylus Cantonensis seldom seen in human race. [Methods] It is briefly recommended the probing and demonstrating procedure for an etiological factor of the Angiostrongyliasis Cantonensis which broke out in Wenzhou, Oct 1997. The establishment of the research union, the discovery of the etiological cue and the route of transmission, the control of the disease, the investigation on the source of infection, the establishment of the sero-immuno-diagnostic methods, a definition of the clinical features as well as another evidence of the plague place of origin were all involved. [Results] It was demonstrated that an outbreak of the disease was caused by Angiostrongylus Cantonensis which induced the larva migrants in the nervous system. It summarized its clinical, epidemiological and immunodiagnostice experiences. [Conclusion] This provided measures for diagnosis and treatment of the disease as well as countermeasures for the disease control and prevention.
