Abstract
The effects of type of birth (single/twin), sex of lamb (ram/ewe) and month of birth (December/January) on birth weight (BW), adjusted weaning weight (AWW) to 90 days of age, final weight at 207 days (FW) and preweaning, postweaning and total average daily gain between birth and final weight of Blackbelly lambs in a commercial operation in Tabasco, Mexico were evaluated by least -squares procedures. The growth curve between birth and 250 days of age was also characterized using regression procedures. Overall means for BW, AWW and FW were 2.7 ± 0.6, 13.7 ± 2.5 and 22.6 ? 4.4 kg, respectively. Overall means for average daily gains were 0.122 ± 0.026, 0.088 ± 0.054 and 0.094 ± 0.024 kg for the preweaning, postweaning and total period, respectively. The general growth curve equation of the lambs up to 250 days of age was: y = 2.6917 + 0.1452x - 0.00073x 2 + 0.00000237x 3 . In general, type of birth,
